Originally from the warm, humid tropical forests of Central America, queen of the night is a cactus that has spectacular flowers. Sometimes, it takes up to 20 years to witness the plant’s first flowers which can reach 40cm in diameter. The flower blooms only one night a year and releases a powerful vanilla-like fragrance that attracts pollinating insects for the few hours it remains open. Furthermore, its Latin name Selenicereus grandiflorus comes from the Greek goddess of the moon, Selena, as a reference to the flowers blooming only during the night. Its unique aspect does not stop there. This flower was the queen of France, Marie-Antoinette's favorite and she would spend long hours watching the plant. The cactus is known to have different properties, including sedative properties, tonicardiac, antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. The queen of the night’s fresh flowers are harvested by hand and extracted via a cryoextraction process at -196°C. Remaining at a very low temperature, this extraction process makes it possible to preserve the natural components of the fresh plant and to offer the best possible results.
