In India, moringa is known as the “tree of miracles” and in Africa, the “never die tree”. Well-known in tropical and subtropical regions for its nutritive and medicinal properties, moringa has also demonstrated an exceptional ability to clear and purify river water. Its seeds contain a cationic polyelectrolyte which binds together and precipitates impurities and bacteria in turbid water through flocculation. This phenomenon has inspired its anti-pollution action.
Skincare Benefits Moringa extract
In cosmetics, moringa extract is used to help eliminate particles of pollution on the skin, and helps to protect against the harmful effects of urban pollution and cigarette smoke.
Responsible sourcing
Originally from India, Moringa, or, "the miracle tree", provides one of our co-products. In cosmetics, co-products are recovered as part of an eco-friendly and sustainable approach with the aim of collecting by-products from other industries to maximize the use of natural resources rich in bioactive molecules, and of using them to develop high-performance cosmetic ingredients. The solid residue obtained after pressing moringa seeds is thereby used to make our extract. A rural development programme has also been in place since 2015 and was set up by a premium that Clarins pays to help local communities to diversify their revenue while providing them with better access to water. It also helps train farmers in good agricultural practices and livestock management.
