Its popular name of “Venus’ Basin” quite clearly illustrates the beneficial role of the teasel plant. The rainwater and dew that collects in the hollow of its curved leaves is a source of drinking water for birds and in times gone by, women would collect this “heavenly water” before sunrise as it was believed it could fade freckles and enhance their beauty. In traditional medicine, its root was used to treat skin diseases and is still used today for its digestive properties.
